The Tower by RachelCurtis The Tower by RachelCurtis
This is based on the book Conrad's Fate by Diana Wynne Jones which I used in a project at school. I know its a children's book but go read!

This is Conrad and Christopher at the top of the very scary tower . . .

Yes, I know the painting could have been better and it does work a bit better before I scanned it but, alas, I still need work.

Watercolor, crowquill and acrylic ink.

Conrad's Fate is a terrifically awesome book and you did it justice here! The bit with the tower was one of my favorites in the book :)

Thanks. I love their reaction to stepping out, and the inside of the tower when they were in the one with the double staircase.

I love these books! I love the way you painted this and the composition of the pictuer, and the way you drew the tower. it really captures the mood and feel of the scene. Great job.

Hm, I never really got into the Merlin Conspiracy, but apart from that I think I loved everything too ^^
Her characters, her writing, her work overall is just sooooo great :) It's one of those series I keep going back to re-read. ^^

I admit the Merlin Conspiracy is not amoung my favourites but I feel her stronger work is for the younger readers and the Merlin Conspiracy is older. Howl's Moving Castle is my favourite.

That's could be I suppose :) But I really just felt the Merlin Conspiracy somehow lacked her usual charm somehow. It never really grew on me, whereas I've re-read all the others several times XD

I really love the Worlds of Chrestomanci, and Howl's Moving Castle was lovely too <3

It was just so serious and there wasn't much silliness at all which isn't very usual for her, but I suppose we each have a favourite of any author, someone probably loves the twistiness of the Merlin Conspiracy best.

All of Diana Wynne Jones' books are amazing! And I think you captured the world of Chrestomanci wonderfully! It reminds me of a crazy tornado completely held up by magic...:D I love it!

When I first saw it I thought 'Brother's Grimm', but then I read the description.
It's a nice, earthy-feeling picture :3
You make it look so easy o:

That would be very neat.
But I actually meant the tower reminded me of the movie.
x3 You'd probably jump at the similarities.

I'm not finished with Conrad's Fate but I love it so much.. I think Jones is my favorite author. This is a beautiful picture, and thank you for painting it because this seems to be the only Conrad's Fate fanart around, I hope to finish my own soon.

Very beautiful watercolor work! I love the angle, the perspective of the tower looks really nice this way. Though personally I think the middle part of the tower seems... I don't know how to describe this, kinda flat? But it's not a really big deal, overall a good job! :)

It seems so natural, sort of, and almost romantic with this "loose perspective" which the above comment refers to. Looks like an engaging book to me :)

Hey Deviant...
You're awesome, and it's been recognized, I'm *Elune-555, and I'm part of a project over at *Deviant-Underground to promote underappreciated artists, and share their art with our watchers, each day three pieces are featured in the group journal. From there deviants are asked to participate by posting the featured thumbs in their own journals to promote both the artists and the project. Then on each Saturday the 5 favorite deviations from that week are posted again in a weekly journal entry and those deviations are put into a poll. By the next week, the deviation with the most votes is submitted to the clubs gallery with comments disabled and a link to the original. So eventually, when the project gets bigger, then that should have a huge effect on the featured deviations comments and favorites.

Anyway, today your piece was featured in todays journal entry.
Enjoy the little bit of attention.

Ways you can help out...
:bulletred: Suggest a deviation to be featured (not yours and less then 15 favorites) by noting us with the link.
