The Other Sister by RachelCurtis The Other Sister by RachelCurtis
Orange and blue is still one of my favourite combinations. Now with the addition of purple! I hardly ever use this purple which is actually this weird discontinued color I picked up while working at the art store a few years ago and I have a problem not buying things when I see them every day. There is a reason I don’t work at the art store anymore. I actually really love purple, I know it is not a color most people keep in their palettes and I have like four just cause … I do.

Fun with getting orange to be as bright as I want it to be, always a challenge, and blue water that didn’t go grainy, all things that are good.

So I hope you enjoy it.

(Story: The Little Mermaid really needs to get rid of that jerk so her charming sister is bringing her a handy, dandy knife! Convenient! Sisters are rad.)

Watercolor and ink on 140lb hotpress.

Very Lovely! actually, in the original Mermaid Story, after the prince married another girl, the little mermaid was given a Knife which she was told to use to kill the prince... but she refused and was turned into seafoam.... So this isn't far from the original story either actually.

Well, he still cared very much for her but as a sister not a lover... So it is a little bittersweet I suppose any way you see it. :(

Mermaids of legend are vicious . . . stabbing would have been kind.

Dude, this is one of the most unique ways of painting a mermaid I've ever seen. I am FLOORED by this. I also adore your subject matter here! Not many people choose to solely paint any of the other sisters, and I love this so much, gahhhh. :rose: Sisters are def rad, hahaha.

I just can't get over the top of this painting, how she's peeking up through the water and it's so interesting and unique faoubsaof. I just love it.

Aaa, I like, have fun picking different fish to make mermaids out of (AKA this one is a tuna), but yeah, I love how vicious mermaids are in other stories, much more fun really, and I don't expect a tuna sister would be very friendly at all, especially not to a human guy making her sister's life hell.  Nope, might as well stab him right?  I am glad you like it!

nfosaufuoabf :iconcannotevenplz: I didn't even realize it was a tuna. That is hysterically amazing. I really wanna try making mermaids out of different fish now.
Dude, yeah, everyone does the happy mermaids, but I like the darker stories, too. XD I mean, the whole point of the legend of sirens is that they lure men to their death and eat their tasty flesh. >>

Orange and blue and complementary colors, since u like the combination ...

btw, funny facts:

and btw i don't rlly agree w/ u, I'm sure a lot of people use purple in their paintings...in overall... maybe u should refresh your eye!

I know a lot of people use purple, but I rather suspect that few of them choose to buy so many different hues of purple simply because they can.  I tend to like using pure pigments so I keep a lot of different colours instead of mixing, so having a lot of purples, well, I have my doubts that most people would go out of their way to buy some of these colours.

Thanks for the links!
